  • "There is the contrast between random shapes, the broken glass, and a non-random shape that is a car door. However, the door is placed in a random position because it is as though it had been thrown into the space by an unforeseen event such as an earthquake or an accident."

    -Mario Merz

For Art Basel Unlimited 2025, Giorgio Persano, Sprovieri and Tucci Russo are delighted to present an exceptional, historical Igloo by Mario Merz: Evidenza di 987, 1978.

Created for an exhibition held at Tucci Russo in Turin in 1978, Mario Merz’s Igloo is a structure made up of 16 segments, with irregular panes of broken glass and a red car door affixed to it by red- handled clamps.

Thus, around the curved space of the igloo, a gust of ‘prehistoric wind’ appears to have deposited the pieces of a ‘wholly broken’ and alienated industrial civilization. The igloo looks at the view around it with branches spread out on the ground or leaning against the wall, the trees traced in their growth painted on canvas hanging on the walls.
