Gregor Schneider
wood, glass, paint and varnish (hand-painted)
Edition 1/1
Schneider built the room u r 7 Atelier in 1990 inside Haus u r in Rheydt. It was there that not only the building materials for his panels, wall elements, and stones were produced — materials from which further rooms emerged — but also windows. Panels made from leftover materials and self-cast stones were later inserted into the walls. Schneider also created “windows that hold shadows” and were “meant to simulate rain,” as he described them. In the following years, additional windows were created there.
As metaphors for the opening of a space, Schneider’s windows become images of his closed and deprived world.
