A 20 cm-wide, 20 cm-deep and 166.5 cm-high (the artist’s height) plinth was cut from a block of unpolished stone, and then left in its natural ash grey colour. A disc was applied 8.5 cm from one end of the column to cut out 11 mm of swarf. After this, the column was divided into two pieces: one 157 cm tall, the distance from the lowest point of the artists’ eyes to the ground, and the other 8.5 cm tall, which is the distance from the top part of the artist’ eyes to the highest point of his body. When the sculpture was put back together, the 11 mm of wastage material from the saw was replaced with 11 mm of ash from cigars the artist smoked. With the 11 mm of ash corresponding to his eyes, the newly put-back-together plinth was restored to his height.
