Edition 6 of 6
In Meireles’s lightbox Atlas 1995-2006, the artist portrays himself - not without irony - as an opposite version of the myth of Atlas, the Titan punished by the gods and condemned to carry the earth on his shoulders. Smiling, Meireles is standing upside down on Piero Manzoni’s famous pedestal of the world, Base del Mondo.
