"(...) Kabakov revisited these particular Black Corner paintings three times: first in 2002, then again in 2006 and 2008. In the beginning, there were six black and white paintings in Room No. 1 of An Alternative History of Art - a room with works painted by the invented artist Charles Rosenthal. They stare at a row of austere works where Kabakov (the fictive artist) is credited with putting on each painting a Black Corner, sometimes with straight edges, others with one torn edge. Inside each angle is a pencil drawing of a somewhat realistic, somewhat propagandistic vision of one aspect of Stalinist Russian Life. All had titles that recall Soviet Realistic practice: On the Canal, In the Moscow Metro, A Street in Tashkent, Meeting of Agronomists, for example (...)". (Ilya Kabakov)
